The Ghana Immigration Service has launched the Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILAC) at its training school in Assin Fosu. The historic event marks a new chapter for female personnel within the Service.

The launch ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including DCOP Abraham Acquaye, Central North Regional Police Commander; Rev. Solomon Quaye; representatives from the Fire Service Ladies Association and Police Ladies Association; Mrs. Ophelia Nkrumah Yohannes, Principal of the Assinman Nursing and Midwifery Training College; and traditional leaders, among others. Their presence reflects the wide support for the empowerment and advancement of women in Ghana’s security and public service sectors.

Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Alex Adu, guest speaker at the event, commended IMMILAC’s formation and encouraged its members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. He emphasized that the association should serve as a driving force for excellence within the Ghana Immigration Service.

The President of IMMILAC, Chief Superintendent of Immigration Nana Nyarkoa, highlighted the association’s purpose: to empower and support female officers within the Ghana Immigration Service by promoting professionalism, unity, and welfare. The association also aims to enhance the leadership and development of its members while engaging in public education and outreach on national issues such as security and online safety.

In line with its mission, IMMILAC has cautioned Ghanaians to be vigilant when engaging in online relationships, as scammers often pose as potential partners to exploit unsuspecting individuals. Nana Nyarkoa warned that scammers invest time in building trust with their victims, manipulating them into sending money, and frequently use social media, dating sites, and gaming apps to target people seeking love and friendship.

She emphasized the importance of being cautious online, particularly when strangers shower excessive attention, a tactic known as “love bombing.” With this initiative, IMMILAC is poised to make a significant impact on the Ghana Immigration Service and the broader community, promoting unity, discipline, and excellence.

The launch of IMMILAC marks a significant milestone in the journey towards gender equality and excellence within the Ghana Immigration Service. The association’s focus on unity, discipline, and excellence will undoubtedly contribute to the Service’s overall mission and vision. As IMMILAC embarks on this new journey, it is expected to foster a sense of community and support among female officers, providing a platform for them to share experiences, challenges, and best practices.

With its commitment to promoting professionalism and unity, IMMILAC is set to play a vital role in shaping the future of female personnel within the Ghana Immigration Service.
