Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, a former Deputy Minister of Defence, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence as the substantive Minister, bringing to the portfolio experience in defence, security, risk management and public administration.
Mr Adjei, who previously served as Minister for Works and Housing, was appointed Deputy Minister of Defence by President John Dramani Mahama and served in that capacity from 2012 to 2017.
His return to the Defence Ministry places him in a portfolio with which he is already familiar, having previously gained experience in matters relating to national security and defence policy.
Born on September 20, 1978, Mr Adjei has pursued academic and professional interests in peace, security, intelligence and strategic management.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), obtained in 2022.
He also holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Beyond his political and public-sector experience, Mr Adjei has worked in the financial and insurance sectors, where he gained experience in risk management and strategic planning.
Over the past eight years, he has also been involved in research focusing on defence strategies and approaches to weakening the capabilities of terrorist organisations.
His professional interests have centred on building systems and institutions capable of responding effectively to emerging security threats and promoting a safer society.
Mr Adjei is an old student of Opoku Ware School and hails from Trede in the Ashanti Region.
His reassignment to the Defence Ministry is expected to draw on his previous experience in the sector as he takes on responsibility for Ghana’s defence administration and policy.
