Police Arrest Four Over Assin Fosu Kidnapping

The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested four persons in connection with the kidnapping, torture and attempted extortion of 30-year-old Bismarck Amo at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

The suspects are Mavis Badu Acheampong, 42, a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School; Charles Doku, 53, a security guard; Oteng Baffour, 31, an electrician; and Kenneth Opoku Kwarteng, alias “Culture,” also a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School.

The four suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Central North Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Cybercrime Unit, Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters and the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in the Ashanti Region.

The operation, code-named “Operation Rescue the Victim and Arrest the Perpetrators,” was coordinated by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohonu.

Briefing the media on Monday, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, Central North Regional Police Commander, said Mr Amo was kidnapped on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and held captive for several days.

He said intelligence gathered by the police during the investigation led investigators to Pankorano in the Ashanti Region, where the victim was believed to have been held.

According to the Police Command, the victim was subsequently abandoned by his abductors on the outskirts of New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects reportedly gave Mr Amo GH¢50 as transportation fare to enable him to return to Assin Fosu.

DCOP Acquaye said the coordinated operation resulted in the rescue of Mr Amo and the arrest of the four suspects.

He said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and determine whether other persons were involved.

The Police Command described the operation as a major disruption of a kidnapping, torture and extortion syndicate.

It assured the public that investigations would continue and that further information would be provided as the case progressed.
