The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, has revealed that the department is engaging police officers across the regions to assess their performance, address operational challenges and introduce new investigative technologies to strengthen crime-fighting efforts.

She made this known during a visit to the Central North Region, based in Assin Fosu, following an earlier engagement with officers in the Central East Region at Kasoa.

COP Lydia Yaako Donkor said the engagements focused particularly on detectives, providing an opportunity to assess their achievements in investigating various crimes, encourage them to sustain their efforts and familiarise them with new technologies being introduced by the CID.

She also highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering, digital forensics and international cooperation in identifying and prosecuting crime offenders.

The CID Director-General said the regional visits form part of an ongoing exercise to strengthen police investigations, enhance officers’ capabilities and improve crime-fighting efforts across the country.

Reacting to the transportation challenges faced by cybercrime unit at Central North Region, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, says the department plans to strengthen collaboration between its headquarters and regional cybercrime units to improve the handling of cybercrime cases.

She said the proposed system would assign specific regions to investigators at the CID headquarters to help address cases from those areas more efficiently.

COP Donkor noted that the headquarters currently handles numerous cybercrime cases, while regional units also face similar challenges.

She said concerns raised by officers during an engagement in the Central North Region had reinforced the need to implement the planned system to bridge operational gaps and improve service delivery.

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has commended the Central North Regional Police Commander and his personnel for their hard work and commitment to duty.

She acknowledged that the police face operational challenges but assured officers that management would address their concerns as solutions become available.

COP Donkor urged personnel to remain committed to the vision of the Ghana Police Service and support the Inspector-General of Police’s efforts to improve policing across the country.

She also appealed to the public to engage police commanders and report concerns directly to them for redress, rather than rushing to expose every issue in the media.

She said collaboration between the police and the public was essential to addressing challenges and building a better country.
