Bawumia Commissions Police Shop to Enhance Officer Welfare

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned the Ghana Police Shop, a dedicated store for police officers to purchase uniforms and accoutrement.
The shop aims to provide adequate services to officers across the country, ensuring they always appear smart in their uniforms and have the necessary logistics to deliver on their mandate.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of the police service in maintaining law and order in the country.
He commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for his efforts in transforming the police service through community engagement, enhanced intelligence operations, and responsive preparation for the elections.

The Vice President also urged police personnel to make more sacrifices to ensure peaceful elections. “I urge you all to continue to be professional in your duties and make the necessary sacrifices to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and secure environment,” he added.

The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, also cautioned individuals who issue threats on social media to destabilize the elections to cease their actions. “Often times, we read in the papers, and we see people threatening on social media. Very soon, anybody who makes a threatening statement to incite violence before, during, and after the elections will face the law,” he warned.

Dr. Dampare assured of the police service’s commitment to ensuring peaceful elections, working with all security agencies under the National Election Committee. “Under the National Election Committee, we will do our utmost best working once again with all security agencies to ensure that this year’s elections are peaceful. And the country will continually be seen as a trailblazer, and the rest of the continent will know, and we will go all out to ensure there is peace,” Dr. Dampare said.

The commissioning of the Ghana Police Shop is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the welfare of police personnel and improve the overall performance of the police service. The shop will provide a one-stop solution for police officers to access all their uniform and logistical needs, improving their overall appearance and effectiveness.

In attendance at the ceremony were top government officials, police personnel, and other stakeholders. The commissioning of the Ghana Police Shop is a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to support the police service in maintaining law and order in the country.
