Assin South DCE Champions Right Age Enrollment Campaign, Calls for Collective Action on Education

Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin South, joined the Assin South Education Directorate and community leaders to celebrate the Right Age Enrollment Campaign, a national initiative by the Ministry of Education and UNICEF aimed at ensuring children start kindergarten at the optimal age of four.

Speaking at a community engagement event, Hon. Birikorang underscored education as a fundamental right and urged collaboration among parents, teachers, and local stakeholders to eliminate barriers to access. “To ensure every child thrives, we must work together students, parents, and teachers. I pledge to ensure quality education in our district,” he declared, emphasizing the campaign’s goal to align enrollment with developmental milestones.

The DCE’s call resonates with broader efforts in Ghana to address educational inequities, such as UNICEF’s Differentiated Learning Plus (DL+) program, which uses data-driven tools to tailor instruction to individual student needs . Hon. Birikorang highlighted the campaign’s potential to lay a stronger foundation for future learning, noting, “KG enrollment at 4 years old is key to building a brighter future for our children and community.”
The event also spotlighted Assin South’s ongoing development projects, including CARE International’s empowerment programs for women in cocoa-growing communities—such as cassava processing initiatives—which indirectly support household stability and children’s education .

The district plans to roll out community sensitization workshops and leverage partnerships with NGOs and government agencies to monitor enrollment progress. Hon. Birikorang reaffirmed his commitment to bridging gaps in education access, aligning with national goals like the DL+ Dashboard’s expansion to schools.
