Obed Kumi renews bid for NPP parliamentary slot in Assin Central

Mr Obed Kumi Awuah, a businessman and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primary in the Assin Central Constituency for the second time.

Mr Awuah, who contested the 2024 NPP parliamentary primary but was unsuccessful, made his intention known on Monday, August 31, 2026, when he paid a courtesy call on Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II, Affutuakwahene, at the Okumanini Palace in Assin Foso.

The visit was made during a meeting of the Affutuakwa Traditional Council.

Mr Awuah appealed to NPP delegates in the constituency to support his candidature and vote for him in the upcoming parliamentary primary.

He said he was committed to contributing to the development of the constituency and supporting initiatives that would improve the wellbeing of residents.

As part of his support for sanitation, Mr Awuah pledged to provide GH¢5,000 every month towards the sanitation initiative being championed by the Affutuakwahene.

He also donated reflective safety shirts to persons engaged in sweeping and other sanitation activities in Assin Foso, to support their work and motivate them to contribute to keeping the town clean.

Mr Awuah said sanitation was a shared responsibility and called on residents to support efforts by the traditional authority to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

He urged the NPP delegates to give him another opportunity to serve, assuring them of his commitment to working with stakeholders to promote development in the constituency.

Mr Awuah’s renewed bid follows his unsuccessful attempt in the 2024 NPP parliamentary primary, where he sought to become the party’s parliamentary candidate for Assin Central.

He is expected to engage with delegates and other stakeholders in the constituency as he seeks their support for the upcoming primary.
