African leaders must be firm in anti-corruption fight – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to strengthen the fight against corruption and ensure that public funds are used efficiently to serve citizens.

Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday, September 24, President Mahama said Africa’s demand for a more equitable global order must be matched by greater transparency and accountability in the governance of its own affairs.

He stressed the need for African leaders to strengthen their institutions and demonstrate integrity in the management of public resources as the continent pushes for greater representation in global decision-making.

“African leadership must be transparent and accountable. We must commit to the fight against corruption and ensure that every dollar of our people’s money counts and is used efficiently in their interest,” he said.
