“Akofena has my full support as Kantanka family, Kristo Asafo leader” – Adwoa Safo

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has backed her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, as leader of the Kantanka family and the Kristo Asafo Church, pledging her support for his leadership.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, she called for unity within the family and the Kristo Asafo Mission, urging members to put aside their differences and preserve the legacy of their late father, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo.
Adwoa Safo said the family must move beyond the disagreements that followed their father’s death and embrace reconciliation in the interest of his vision and legacy.
“The time has come for us, as a family, to transcend whatever differences, misunderstandings or grievances that may have characterised the immediate aftermath of the demise of our dear dad and consign them to history,” she said.
She expressed her willingness to work with Akofena and her other siblings to advance their father’s vision, stressing that his legacy should not become a source of division within the family.
“I publicly acknowledge and accept him as the Leader of the Kantanka Family and the Kristo Asafo Church. He has my full support. Our father’s legacy transcends any one individual. It is a collective inheritance and a profound responsibility entrusted to us, as his children,” she said.
Her statement comes after months of tensions over the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo in September 2025.
In June, the family of the late Apostle rejected Akofena’s claim to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission and maintained that the succession framework established by the founder remained binding.
The family had also identified Adwoa Safo as the recognised Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family and principal representative of its interests.
Adwoa Safo is now urging members of the Kristo Asafo Church and the wider Kantanka family to support a new chapter of reconciliation.
“Let us embrace this new chapter with reconciliation, fraternity and a shared sense of purpose,” she added.
