NADMO Presents Relief Items to Rainstorm Victims in Assin Akrofuom

The Assin South Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented relief items to victims affected by the recent rainstorm in Assin Akrofuom.

The dawn downpour, accompanied by strong winds, destroyed more than 20 households. Although no deaths were recorded, several people sustained injuries, while others were rendered homeless.

The relief items included mattresses, mosquito nets, bags of rice, bottles of cooking oil, rubber bowls, cups, and blankets.

The disaster, triggered by heavy rainfall and strong winds, destroyed properties, damaged residential buildings, and disrupted the livelihoods of several residents in the affected communities.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Assin South NADMO Director, Mr. Adusei Nicholas Sarpong, assured residents of the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare and security of citizens, particularly those affected by disasters.

He urged residents to prioritise safety by ensuring that all building projects receive the necessary approvals from the Assembly to prevent construction in waterlogged and other disaster-prone areas.

Mr. Adusei also called on stakeholders to strengthen efforts toward disaster prevention and improving community safety within the District.

He appealed to affected residents who are yet to receive assistance to remain calm, assuring them that NADMO would ensure a fair and transparent distribution process.

Mr. Adusei Nicholas Sarpong reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to working with stakeholders to support disaster victims and strengthen disaster management efforts in the District.

The beneficiaries commended the Government for its swift response and support, expressing hope that the relief items would help ease their hardship.

One of the victims, shocked by the extent of the destruction, appealed to benevolent organisations and philanthropists to provide additional support to affected families.

“We are still appealing to institutions and individuals to support us with more relief items. NADMO and the Assembly have done their best, but we still need more to assist all the victims,” the victim appealed.
