FACT-CHECK: MP Ntim Fordjour Has Not Funded Fuel for DRIP Machines in Assin South (PART 1)

ASSIN SOUTH, GHANA — Reports circulating on social media claiming that the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, has directed the District Assembly to use his Common Fund to purchase fuel for District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines are false.
An investigation by Fact-Check Hub GH has confirmed that no such directive or financial contribution has been made by the MP regarding the fueling of the equipment currently grading roads in the district.

The Claim

On Friday, January 16, 2026, a report attributed to Bohyeba FM 97.5 alleged that Hon. John Ntim Fordjour had ordered the Assin South District Assembly to utilize his MP’s Common Fund to procure fuel for the DRIP machines to facilitate district-wide road grading.

Administrative Verification: DCE and DCD Confirm No Record

Under Ghana’s local government financial regulations, the use of an MP’s Common Fund follows a strict legal process. The MP must first submit a formal request to the District Assembly, which must then be approved by the District Chief Executive (DCE) and officially authorized by the District Coordinating Director (DCD), who serves as the spending officer.

Fact-Check Hub GH verified the following through the Assembly’s leadership:

  1. No Formal Directive: The DCE, Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, confirmed that he has received no such directive, letter, or call from the MP regarding the use of the Common Fund for fuel.
  2. No Technical Authorization: The District Coordinating Director (DCD), whose signature is legally required on any payment voucher before cash can be withdrawn for project expenses, has not signed any documents or received any memorandum to release funds for this purpose.
  3. Zero Financial Trail: There is no administrative record within the Assembly’s accounts showing that the MP’s fund has been touched for the ongoing roadworks.

Who is Funding the Roadwork?

According to the DCE, the ongoing road reshaping and maintenance projects within the Assin South District are the result of a collaborative effort between the District Assembly and local community members. He emphasized that Hon. Ntim Fordjour has not provided fuel for these specific operations.

Verdict: FAKE

The claim that Hon. John Ntim Fordjour is funding the fuel for DRIP machines through his Common Fund is inaccurate and misleading. The roadworks are currently being sustained by the Assembly’s resources and community support.
