C/R: Three injured in GH₵20,000 ‘galamsey fee’ clash at Aboboye

Three people have sustained injuries following a violent confrontation between a group of men and illegal miners at Aboboye, an illegal mining (galamsey) enclave in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.

According to reports, six men from Tarkwa in the Western Region reportedly went to the mining site on Saturday, November 15 claiming they were instructed by the Twifo Praso District NADMO Director, James Prah, to collect money from illegal miners.

The men allegedly demanded GH₵20,000, but the miners offered GH₵2,000, citing poor business that day.

The disagreement escalated into a violent clash, with the men reportedly setting mining equipment, including pumping machines, on fire. Three of the six men were severely injured, rushed to a nearby hospital, and later arrested by police. The remaining three managed to escape.

Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Chief Executive (DCE) Isaac Yawson has condemned the actions of the NADMO Director and his associates, accusing them of carrying out unauthorized operations across the district, including in Twifo Mampong, without the approval of the District Security Council (DISEC).

The DCE said James Prah had previously misled the Regional NADMO Directorate about the scale of illegal mining along the River Pra, prompting a regional inspection on November 13, 2025, which reportedly revealed that the situation had been misrepresented.
