2024 Elections: Special Voting in Eastern and Western Regions Pushed to December 5

The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the Special Voting for the Eastern and Western Regions to Thursday, December 5.

This decision follows the recall of ballot papers for both the presidential and parliamentary elections for the two regions.

Originally set for Monday, December 2, the Special Voting for these two regions will now take place on December 5. The change was revealed by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in Accra on Sunday, December 1.

Jean Mensa explained that the need for rescheduling arose after the discovery of a broken seal on electoral materials in the Eastern Region.

While there were no issues with the Western Region’s ballot papers, the same printing press that produced the Eastern Region ballots also printed those for the Western Region. As a precaution, the EC decided to recall and reprint the ballots for both regions.

Special Voting for other regions will proceed as scheduled on Monday, December 2.

The EC assured all stakeholders that measures are in place to ensure the credibility of the election process and called for patience and cooperation as they work to resolve the issue.
