“Bagbin Sounds Alarm on Election Violence, Calls for Preemptive Action”

Parliamentary Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin has called for proactive measures to prevent a repeat of Kenya’s violent protests in Ghana, as the country prepares for a crucial general election on December 7th, 2024. Speaking to the media in Kumasi, Bagbin warned that Ghana could face similar violent demonstrations as seen in Kenya and Tanzania, emphasizing the need for preemptive measures to ensure a peaceful election.

He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to holding free, fair, and transparent elections, emphasizing that the will of the people must not be subverted.

The Speaker revealed that he has engaged with various stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission Chairperson, who has assured him of a free and fair election. He has also met with the Chief Justice, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, other Chiefs, and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), all of whom have commended his efforts. Bagbin plans to meet with President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia soon.
