“Mankessim Teenager’s Breakup Turns Violent, Sets Fire to Boyfriend’s Belongings”

A dramatic incident has occurred at New Nkusukum, a suburb of Mankessim in the Central Region, where a 16-year-old girl, Rebecca Nyomi, set her boyfriend’s room on fire following a breakup. According to reports gathered by Kofi Tutu News, the suspect had gone to her boyfriend’s workplace, a cornmill shop, and requested “chop money” but was told by her boyfriend, Samuel Agbobli, that he had ended their relationship due to her alleged infidelity.
Despite her pleas for forgiveness, the boyfriend dragged her out of his workplace. In a fit of rage, Rebecca went to his house, used a spare key to gain entry, and set the room ablaze using kerosene. She then locked the doors and windows, leaving none of the boyfriend’s belongings, including a fridge and TV, to be salvaged.
Neighbors intervened to put out the fire, preventing the entire 22-room compound house from being destroyed. The timely intervention also prevented any casualties, but the room was completely gutted, leaving Samuel with nothing.
Rebecca later confessed to the crime and appealed for forgiveness, claiming she had contributed to the purchase of the items in the room. She is currently assisting police investigations at the Mankessim Police Station after being taken there by community members.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many calling for counseling for young people in relationships to prevent such violent outbursts. The police have also warned against taking the law into one’s own hands, urging individuals to seek legal recourse in cases of relationship disputes.
Samuel Agbobli, the boyfriend, expressed gratitude that no one was hurt but lamented the loss of his belongings. He stated that he had tried to end the relationship amicably but Rebecca’s actions took him by surprise.
The authorities are considering charges of arson and destruction of property against Rebecca.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unresolved conflicts and the need for healthy relationship habits among young people.
