Tourism Minister Advocates for African Cinema at NiFS

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has called for collaboration and unity in promoting African cinema.

He made this appeal during his participation as a special guest at the Nigerian International Film & TV Summit (NiFS) in Lagos.

Hon. Mercer highlighted the significant progress made by African cinema, which has evolved from local storytelling traditions to become a global force.

He praised Nigerian cinema, known as Nollywood, for its leading role in this development, producing a vast array of creative and resilient films.

The Minister stated that African cinema has the potential to reshape the narrative of Africa, telling its own stories, in its own voices, and showcasing the rich tapestry of cultures, histories, and experiences that define the continent.

He expressed optimism that the NiFS summit will serve as a catalyst for deeper collaboration, greater creativity, and the continued rise of African cinema on the global stage.

Hon. Mercer believes that by working together, African nations can tell their stories of resilience, creativity, and boundless potential.
