Railway workers to strike over unpaid salaries

The Railway Workers Union has threatened to suspend operations beginning, Tuesday, May 13, 2025, should the Ghana Railway Company Limited fail to settle salary arrears owed to more than 900 staff.
Workers say they have not received salaries for the past seven months, leaving many in financial distress. They alleged that the state-owned company’s operations have been deteriorating since the change of government.
Branch Secretary of the Union’s Accra office, Franklin Cobbinah, described the situation as critical and called for immediate government intervention.
“For the past seven months, we have not been paid. Anytime you ask, nobody is willing to volunteer information to you. We have tried to calm the workers down. Now, we can’t control them anymore. So, as workers, we are demanding our seven months’ salary from our management,” he told Citi News.
The potential strike is expected to disrupt rail services, particularly on the Tema–Accra passenger route.
