Bawumia Selects Opoku Prempeh as Running Mate
NAPO's Experience and Popularity Make Him a Strategic Choice for the NPP

In a move that is set to shape the political landscape of Ghana, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has chosen Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as his running mate for the upcoming presidential election.
Dr. Prempeh, a 56-year-old medical doctor and Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, has a rich political history. He was first elected to Parliament in 2008 and has since won re-election in 2012, 2016, and 2020. During his tenure, he has served on various committees, including Health Appointment and Defence and Interior.
In 2017, President Akufo-Addo appointed Dr. Prempeh as the Education Minister, a position he held until his recent appointment as Energy Minister. His dedication and commitment to the party have made him a favorite among grassroots members.
According to a survey conducted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on June 15, 2024, Dr. Prempeh was the preferred choice among party members to be Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, securing an impressive 76.2% of the responses from executives polled.
The formal announcement of Dr. Prempeh as the running mate is expected to be made after Dr. Bawumia presents his choice to the party’s council. This move is seen as a strategic decision to bolster the party’s chances in the upcoming election.
With Dr. Prempeh by his side, Dr. Bawumia is poised to lead the NPP to victory in the December 7 presidential election.
