“Our problems will multiply if salaries delay” — Unpaid nurses plead with gov’t

The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives has indicated that it remains hopeful that the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, will announce a clear timeline for the payment of their 10 months’ salary arrears when he addresses the media later on Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Health Minister is expected to respond to mounting concerns from the group, which recently staged a protest to demand immediate payment of the outstanding salaries.

The coalition’s Convenor, Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, told Citi News on Sunday, October 12, 2025, that members are eagerly anticipating concrete assurances from the Minister during Monday’s press briefing.

“Per the message we got from the Deputy Finance Minister on the day we submitted our petition, he indicated that the Ministry will be in Parliament next month to present next year’s budget and that we would be captured in it. But waiting until next year to pay us will only worsen our situation. They should do well to pay us this year,” he said.

The group has vowed to continue its advocacy until the government fulfills its commitment to clear the arrears owed to newly recruited nurses and midwives across the country.
