Government Set to Recruit 11,000 Personnel for Security Agencies

According to credible sources at the Ministry of Interior and Finance, the government is poised to clear the backlog of applicants for various security agencies under the Interior Ministry, starting from Monday, July 8, 2024. Financial clearance has been granted for the recruitment of new personnel, with no advertisements required due to the existing backlog.
The breakdown of the recruitment figures is as follows:
- Ghana Prisons Service: 1,500 personnel
- Ghana Immigration Service: 3,000 personnel
- Ghana Police Service: 4,000 personnel
- Ghana National Fire Service: 2,000 personnel
- Narcotics Control Commission: 500 personnel
This recruitment drive aims to augment the current staff strength of these security agencies. The Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, had earlier denied claims of secret recruitment, assuring that the process would be transparent and focused on clearing the existing backlog.
The Akufo-Addo government has consistently prioritized youth employment in the security sector, recruiting 15,814 personnel since 2017. This latest recruitment drive would bring the total to 26,814, a significant achievement in addressing youth unemployment. The government has also provided necessary logistics, including cars, communication equipment, and accommodation, to enhance the effectiveness of these security agencies.
