EOCO, AG working to bring Baffour Awuah before weekend court

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says it is working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah before a weekend court.
The development follows the MP’s voluntary surrender to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as part of investigations into a GH¢2.2 million payment made to his law firm in connection with legal services involving SIC Life.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 2, EOCO said Baffour Awuah is cooperating with investigators as the Office continues with the necessary investigative, procedural and operational processes.
The Office said it is mindful of the constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail and is therefore working with the Attorney-General’s Office to bring the MP before a weekend court.
Baffour Awuah’s surrender followed a period of uncertainty over his detention by EOCO in connection with the investigation. His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, had questioned the rationale for detaining the MP and raised concerns about the duration of the process.
EOCO, however, said the investigative processes remain ongoing and that the MP is cooperating with the Office. The Office has also urged the public to disregard reports that it has granted Baffour Awuah GH¢50 million bail.
EOCO said any further developments regarding the suspect’s bail and court proceedings will follow the applicable legal and procedural requirements.
On September 29, 2026, EOCO attempted to arrest the Manhyia South MP as part of investigations into a GH¢2.2 million payment. The attempted arrest triggered a standoff, with the MP later engaging EOCO through his lawyers before voluntarily surrendering to the Office on October 1, 2026, to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
