Parliament approves Mahama Ayariga, Zanetor as ministers

Parliament has approved the nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for appointment as Ministers for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Environment, Science and Technology, respectively.

The approvals follow their vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee as part of the constitutional process for scrutinising presidential nominees for ministerial positions.

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to take charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

His nomination places him at the centre of government’s efforts in local governance, decentralisation, chieftaincy matters and relations with religious bodies.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was also nominated by President Mahama as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.

Her proposed portfolio covers key areas including environmental protection, scientific research, technological development and policies aimed at addressing environmental challenges.

Both nominees appeared before the Appointments Committee for scrutiny, where they were assessed on their competence, experience and suitability for the respective portfolios.

Following the completion of the vetting process, the Committee’s recommendations paved the way for Parliament to consider and approve their nominations.

Their approval comes as the government continues to make changes to its ministerial team to advance its policy agenda across local governance, environmental protection, science and technology.

Mahama Ayariga is expected to bring his parliamentary and political experience to the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio, while Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings will take responsibility for the government’s agenda on environmental sustainability, science and technological advancement.
