MoMo Expands Support for SMEs Nationwide – Prince Owusu Nyarko

MobileMoney Fintech LTD, a subsidiary of MTN Ghana, has launched the second phase of its Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Capacity Building Programme, aimed at equipping 600 entrepreneurs across the country with practical business skills and digital solutions to enhance their operations.
The initiative, being undertaken in partnership with Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and Kola Market, seeks to improve the capacity of retailers through financial literacy, business management training, digital commerce support, access to credit, insurance and other financial products.
Speaking at the programme in Takoradi, the Regional Senior Manager for South West at MobileMoney Fintech LTD,Mr. Prince Owusu Nyarko, said collaboration remained key to empowering SMEs and enabling them to build resilient businesses.
“We recognise that strong partnerships are essential to delivering value to small and medium-sized enterprises. Together with UMB and Kola Market, we are combining financial expertise, digital commerce support and MoMo’s technology solutions to help retailers strengthen and grow their businesses,” he said.

Mr. Nyarko described retailers as an important pillar of Ghana’s economy, noting that they connect producers to consumers, create employment opportunities, support households and facilitate the circulation of money within communities.
He said the capacity-building programme was designed to provide entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and tools to improve business performance while preparing them for long-term growth.
According to him, MobileMoney Fintech LTD has evolved beyond providing payment services, with MoMo now serving as a business solution that enables enterprises to receive digital payments, monitor transactions, improve accountability and maintain credible financial records.
He explained that proper financial records would position businesses to access credit and other financial services needed for expansion.
“Going cashless is not the end goal. It is about giving businesses better visibility over their daily operations, improving customer service and creating opportunities for future growth,” Mr. Nyarko stated.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s SME sector through innovation, practical business education and strategic partnerships.
The Talent Manager at MobileMoney Fintech Limited, Ms. Eunice Annor, also urged businesses to place greater emphasis on customer retention, describing loyalty as a critical factor in achieving sustainable growth.
She observed that many businesses focused heavily on attracting new customers while paying less attention to maintaining existing relationships.
Ms. Annor said customer loyalty could not be won through discounts or advertising alone but by understanding customers’ needs and consistently delivering products and services that addressed their expectations.
The MSME Capacity Building Programme forms part of MobileMoney Fintech LTD’s broader efforts to promote financial inclusion and strengthen the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises across Ghana.
