Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have threatened to boycott all official engagements involving the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jerryne Asante , if she is not removed from office or resigns after the expiration of a one-week ultimatum issued to her.
The assembly members say they have lost confidence in the MCE’s leadership, citing allegations of financial mismanagement, abuse of office and administrative incompetence. They are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene by immediately relieving her of her position.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday, July 24, Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area, George Kuntu Blankson, declared that the members would no longer recognise Jerryne Asante authority if their demands are ignored.
“We are not going to work with her. We are not going to work with her as an MCE. There is no meeting that is going to be organised that we are going to sanction or attend,” he stated.
This follows a press conference held by the aggrieved assembly members earlier on Friday July 24, during which they accused the MCE of failing to address a series of concerns despite directives issued by the Assembly’s Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC).
According to the members, the PRCC, at a meeting held on April 30, 2026, gave her a two-week deadline to resolve a number of outstanding issues. However, they claim none of the directives has been implemented nearly three months later.
Among the allegations raised is the MCE’s purported failure to supervise the court-ordered demolition of a structure said to be obstructing a public road at Akyiawkrom.
The assembly members also accused the MCE of diverting GH¢29,000 in property rates and business permit fees collected on August 1, 2025. They alleged that the money, instead of being paid into the Assembly’s accounts, was used by the MCE and her personal aide to purchase 32 packets of roofing sheets for personal use.
The members further argued that the allegations, coupled with what they describe as the MCE’s inadequate understanding of Ghana’s decentralisation system, have undermined confidence in her ability to effectively manage the affairs of the municipality.
They have therefore appealed to President Mahama to immediately remove the MCE from office, warning that they will withdraw their cooperation from all Assembly activities if no action is taken after the expiry of the one-week ultimatum.
