Assin South: Former NPP Parliamentary Aspirant Joins NDC with 15,000 Supporters

In a major political development in the Assin South Constituency, former NPP parliamentary aspirant and independent parliamentary candidate, Joseph Kofi Damptey, has defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) together with more than 15,000 supporters.
The announcement was made at the NDC Constituency Office at Assin Ngresi in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
Mr. Kofi-Damptey was officially presented with an NDC membership card by the Central Regional Vice Chairman of the party, Dr. Shaibu Bukari, to formally signify his admission into the NDC.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Mr. Damptey explained that his decision was influenced by the NDC’s development agenda and what he described as the achievements of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration within its first year in office.
According to him, his foremost priority is the welfare of the people of Assin South, which he believes must be placed above partisan interests.
He further stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in its current state, no longer reflects the principles and values upon which it was founded, a key reason for his decision to join the NDC.
Mr. Kofi Damptey therefore called on his supporters to rally behind him and support the NDC’s agenda, while also urging them to uphold the party’s principles, discipline, and unity.
Some supporters who defected with him, many of whom were formerly aligned with the NPP, accused the party of taking their loyalty for granted. They said their decision to join the NDC was largely influenced by their continued support for Mr. Kofi Damptey.
They also indicated that Mr. Kofi Damptey had already begun assisting some of them with employment opportunities and expressed confidence that he would help bring the development and transformation they desire in the Assin South District.
The Central Regional Secretary of the NDC, Eric Offei Esq., who spoke on behalf of the party, welcomed the defectors and described their decision as a clear indication of the NDC’s growing appeal and commitment to development and good governance.
He assured them of equal opportunities within the party and encouraged all members to work together to secure victory for the NDC in the upcoming elections.
Also present at the ceremony were the NDC Assin South Constituency Chairman, Mr. Thomas Cobbinah, the District Chief Executive for Assin South, Jonathan Birikorang, as well as several constituency executives and party supporters.
