Assin South DCE Empowers 70 PWDs with Equipment and Cash

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin South, Hon. Jonathan Birirkorng, has distributed essential items and financial support to 70 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district as part of efforts to promote economic empowerment and improve their livelihoods.

The items provided included deep freezers with ice chests, fufu pounding machines, laptops, Solo cocoa spraying machines, and shop containers. These tools are expected to help beneficiaries start or expand small businesses and become more self-reliant.

In addition to the equipment, the beneficiaries also received financial assistance to cover school fees, medical bills, and trading capital. The support was drawn from the District Assembly’s share of the Common Fund allocated for Persons with Disabilities, which is intended to improve the welfare and economic independence of PWDs.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Hon. Birirkorng emphasized that the initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader commitment to promoting inclusivity and social empowerment in the district. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and financial support provided to improve their living conditions and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

The DCE also assured that the Assembly would conduct regular follow-ups to ensure that the beneficiaries make the most of the resources provided.

The event was attended by the District Coordinating Director and other Assembly staff, whose presence underscored the collective commitment of the Assembly to improving the lives of vulnerable groups within the district.

Hon. Birirkorng further stressed that supporting persons with disabilities is crucial to building an inclusive and progressive society.

“When persons with disabilities are ostracised, they cannot maximise their potential to make society a better place. It is the responsibility of society to accept them with welcoming hands, so they feel valued and loved,” he stated.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the District Assembly and the government for the support, describing the intervention as timely and life-changing.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assin South District Assembly to ensure equal opportunities and social inclusion for all residents, particularly persons living with disabilities.
