Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison Speaks Out on Alleged Shooting Attack

Cynthia Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West, has broken her silence on the alleged shooting attack during her campaign on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

According to Morrison, the incident occurred when her team and supporters of Agona West NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Chris Arthur, crossed paths while campaigning in the same area. The encounter escalated into a clash, resulting in four injuries, including two gunshot wounds.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day, Morrison recounted the events, stating she didn’t hear any gunfire due to her proximity to the window. “I was focused on my program when Chris Arthur’s convoy passed by. Shortly after, police asked me to get back inside my car, and that’s when someone mentioned a gunshot,” she explained.

Morrison denied allegations from Alexander Afenyo-Markin, leader of the NPP Caucus in Parliament, that her security personnel shot Agona West NPP Constituency Nasara Coordinator, Haruna Rashid. “I urged Afenyo-Markin to verify facts with the police before making accusations,” she emphasized.

The police are currently investigating the incident. Morrison clarified that she didn’t use the usual route and stressed the importance of verifying facts.

This development comes as Ghana prepares for upcoming elections, with tensions rising among political parties. Cynthia Morrison’s decision to contest as an independent candidate has added to the complexity of the Agona West constituency race.

The incident has sparked concerns about campaign violence and the need for peaceful elections. Ghana’s security forces are working to ensure public safety amidst rising tensions.

Morrison’s campaign team has called for calm, urging supporters to focus on peaceful electioneering. The Agona West Constituency remains a crucial battleground in Ghana’s electoral landscape.

As investigations unfold, Ghanaian authorities are under pressure to ensure justice and maintain order. The international community watches closely, eager to see Ghana’s democratic process unfold smoothly.
