Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, has announced a new directive prohibiting unlicensed and unidentified Okada riders from operating in the municipality. He stated that no individual would be allowed to ride an Okada (commercial motorcycle), popularly known as ‘Pragyia,’ without a valid license and ID.

This move aims to curb reckless driving and promote road safety. “Only riders with valid licenses and IDs will be allowed to operate,” he added, noting that “riders must be at least 21 years old to operate an Okada, as stipulated by the association.”

Hon. Stanley Acquah made this declaration during a visit by the Mfantseman Pragyia Riders Association (MPR) to his office. He commended the association for their contributions to sanitation efforts in the municipality and their efforts in road maintenance, including filling potholes on highways and urban roads. The MCE pledged to support the Association in its efforts to build a better Mfantseman.

The association’s patron, Lawyer Adu Gyamfi Marfo, stated that the Association has received education on road safety from the National Road Safety Authority and has the support of the Ghana Police Service.

By providing opportunities for licensed and ID-holding individuals to ride Okadas, the association hopes to help alleviate unemployment in the municipality. He emphasized that the initiative will help reduce unemployment and promote road safety, making roads safer for all users in the municipality.
