Assin Manso SHS Develops Medical Solar Sterilizer at Energy Commission’s Challenge

Assin Manso Senior High School students have made a significant breakthrough in renewable energy with the development of a solar-powered medical sterilizer. The innovative device, showcased at the 6th Energy Commission’s Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge, uses solar energy to disinfect medical equipment, providing an eco-friendly and energy-efficient solution for healthcare facilities.

This invention is particularly beneficial for rural and off-grid areas where access to traditional electricity sources is limited. By harnessing solar power, the sterilizer reduces reliance on conventional energy sources while ensuring effective infection control in medical facilities. According to the students, the device indicates effective sterilization after three hours in the sun, helping reduce infection rates in healthcare settings.

The Renewable Energy Challenge brought together senior high schools from across the country, promoting practical learning and raising awareness about renewable energy among students. The competition serves as a platform to identify and nurture Ghana’s next generation of clean energy leaders.

Assin Manso SHS’s innovative project showcases their commitment to harnessing renewable energy for practical applications. The school aspires to become a center of academic excellence, producing citizens imbued with discipline, diligence, and innovative skills to contribute to national development.

The Energy Commission hopes that such projects will inspire future innovators and promote clean energy and sustainable development in Ghana.
