The Ministry of Defence has described the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, as the embodiment of true leadership, following his death in a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry at the night of reflections and memorial on Saturday, August 9, Colonel Ernestina Assan said the minister’s sudden death was a devastating blow to the nation.
“What a great shock, death laid its icy hands on you. Your plans for the country have all been shattered,” she said.
Colonel Asaan praised Dr. Boamah for his humility, kindness, and ability to connect with people at all levels. She noted that his respect for civil servants and his dedication to amplifying their voices in a military-dominated space reflected his unwavering commitment to fairness and inclusivity.
She described him as compassionate, hardworking, and always ready to serve, even in his final moments.
“His legacy of empathy, humility, and selfless devotion leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though his passing is a profound loss, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched,” she added.
Dr. Boamah was among eight people who died when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District on Wednesday, August 6.
The Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Tamale Central MP, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, also lost his life in the incident.
