Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie Champions Domestic Tourism in Central Region

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has emphasized the importance of harnessing the Central Region’s rich cultural and historical sites to drive local economic growth and tourism investment. This was stated during a successful meeting with the Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives (MMDCEs) of the region.

The meeting aimed to boost tourism through innovation and the government’s reset agenda. Minister Gomashie urged the MMDCEs to transform heritage sites, including the iconic Cape Coast Castle, into vibrant economic assets. She stressed the need for innovative strategies and stronger collaboration to achieve this goal.

The Minister also called for productivity within the ministry’s ecosystem, emphasizing that all government workers in Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts should report to work and deliver tangible results. “We need to ensure that every effort counts and every resource is utilized effectively to promote our tourism sector,” she added.

Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Oyere Eduamoah, echoed the Minister’s sentiments, highlighting the need for sustainable funding models to enhance site development and attract more visitors. “Sustainable funding is crucial for the development of our tourism sites. We need to explore innovative financing options to support our tourism initiatives,” he said.

This initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to reposition the promotion of domestic tourism and uncover new sites and products. The Minister believes that success depends on the investment of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the readily available opportunities in their respective communities.

By promoting domestic tourism, the government aims to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and showcase Ghana’s rich cultural heritage to both locals and international visitors. The Minister’s efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and contribute to the country’s overall development.
