Lorry Fares Increased by 20% Effective Today

The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in lorry fares, effective Monday, March 17, 2025.
The decision comes in response to rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of vehicle maintenance, including spare parts and engine oil, according to the Alliance of Drivers Ghana.
In a press statement issued on March 13, 2025, the association cited the surge in fuel prices from GH₵12.99 to GH₵16.23 per litre as a key factor behind the fare adjustment.
“All indications show that fuel prices, spare parts, car prices, and engine oil prices continue to rise gradually,” the statement noted.
The drivers emphasized that, as self-employed individuals, they receive no government support and must sustain their livelihoods through fare adjustments.
“How can we go to work and come back home empty-handed? We are not receiving pay from the government. We manage ourselves to take care of our families, but every time we go to work, we return home with nothing,” the statement added.
The Alliance urged both drivers and passengers to take note of the fare adjustment, expressing hope that commuters would understand the necessity of the decision.
The statement was signed by George Baffuor Owusu Afriyie, the General Secretary, along with other key executives, including Deputy National P.R.O William Opoku Asare, National Organiser Mr. Ishmael, and National P.R.O Kwaku Boateng.
