EPA Boss Visits Ashanti Region, Vows to Tackle Illegal Mining

The Environmental Protection Authority(EPA) has sounded a warning to individuals and groups engaging in illegal mining activities, particularly in the Ashanti Region. The agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, recently visited the region and witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of illegal mining on the environment.

Professor Klutse expressed deep concern over the severe pollution of water bodies in the region, particularly River Offin at Pasoro. The pollution poses a significant threat to both the environment and communities that rely on the water body.

“The situation is dire, and we cannot afford to wait,” Professor Klutse said. “We will take decisive action to protect our water sources, including stricter enforcement of environmental regulations, intensified monitoring, and holding all violators accountable.”

The EPA’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s environment is in line with the government’s efforts to promote sustainable development and ensure the well-being of citizens. The agency’s actions are expected to have a positive impact on the environment, public health, and the economy.

As the EPA works to address the issue of illegal mining, it is essential that all stakeholders, including community members, traditional leaders, and law enforcement agencies, collaborate to prevent further environmental degradation.

The fight against illegal mining is a collective responsibility, and the EPA is calling on all Ghanaians to join the effort to protect the country’s precious water resources.
