Assin South Constituency Sees Shift in Election Results

The 2024 election results in the Assin South Constituency have been released, and a comparison with the 2020 results reveals some interesting changes.

In the 2020 elections, John Ntim Fordjour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerged victorious with 17,121 votes. Joseph Kofi Damtse, an independent candidate, came in second with 15,801 votes, while Nicholas Baffoe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured 10,201 votes.

Fast-forward to the 2024 elections, and the numbers tell a slightly different story. John Ntim Fordjour of the NPP still leads, but with 14,899 votes, representing 38.61% of the total votes cast. Stephen K. Baidoo of the NDC comes in second with 13,354 votes, accounting for 34.62% of the total votes. Joseph K. Damtse secured 10,332 votes, representing 26.77% of the total votes cast.

While the NPP’s John Ntim Fordjour maintains his lead, the NDC’s Stephen K. Baidoo has narrowed the gap, and Joseph K. Damtse’s vote share remains relatively consistent. These changes reflect the evolving dynamics of the constituency’s electoral landscape.

The results suggest that the NDC has made significant inroads in the constituency, with Stephen K. Baidoo’s performance indicating a strong challenge to the NPP’s dominance. Meanwhile, Joseph K. Damtse’s consistent showing demonstrates his enduring popularity among voters in the constituency.

As the dust settles on the 2024 elections, the Assin South Constituency is likely to remain a key battleground in Ghanaian politics. The NPP and NDC will likely continue to vie for dominance, while independent candidates like Joseph K. Damtse may continue to play a significant role in shaping the constituency’s electoral landscape.

The shift in votes is also indicative of the changing demographics and voting patterns in the constituency. The NDC’s gains may be attributed to their efforts to mobilize support among the youth and marginalized communities.

On the other hand, the NPP’s reduced margin of victory may be a cause for concern for the party. They will need to reassess their strategy and engage with voters to understand their concerns and address them.

As the constituency looks to the future, it is clear that the 2024 elections have set the stage for a more competitive and dynamic political landscape. The people of Assin South Constituency will be watching closely as their elected representatives work to address their needs and concerns.
