Nana Aba Egyirba II Tackles Sexual Abuse In AAK District

The Queen Mother of Nsona No.1 royal family of Amosima in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District, Nana Aba Egyirba II, has taken a significant step towards addressing sexual abuse in her district. Through her Grace Medical Foundation, Nana Aba donated sanitary pads to students of Abrayaw M.A. Zion School and educated them on sexual abuse and personal hygiene.
According to Nana Aba Egyirba II, many girls are often ignorant of what constitutes sexual abuse, making them vulnerable to exploitation. She attributed her own awareness of these issues to her parents, who educated her on sexual abuse from a young age. The Queen Mother emphasized the importance of parents and guardians taking an active role in educating their children about sexual abuse.
“As a Queen Mother and founder of Grace Medical Foundation, my aim is to extend a helping hand to young girls in rural areas,” Nana Aba stated. “I believe that educating our children about sexual abuse is crucial in preventing them from falling victim to it.”
The donation and educational session were well-received by the students, who expressed their gratitude to Nana Aba and her foundation. Entrepreneur Abigail Owusu, CEO of 3E Concept, also spoke at the event, describing sexual abuse as “destructive” and urging girls to speak up if they experience it.
“The need to encourage our girls to speak up on matters bothering sexual abuse cannot be overemphasized,” Ms. Owusu said. “We should teach our girls about their rights and empower them to protect themselves.”
The event is part of a broader initiative to empower adolescent girls and combat teenage pregnancy in the district. Nana Aba work with parents, traditional leaders, and teachers to address sexual and gender-based violence and promote adolescent reproductive health.
Nana Aba’s efforts have been praised by the community, with many calling for more initiatives to address sexual abuse and promote girls’ education. The Queen Mother’s commitment to empowering young girls and promoting their well-being is a step in the right direction towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for girls in the AAK District.
