Nkum Asafo No. 4 emerged victorious in the 2024 Oguaa Fetu Afahye Regatta, held at the Cape Coast Community Garden on Tuesday.
The annual canoe race, a highlight of the 60th Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebration, saw fierce competition between three main Asafo Companies: Nkum Number 4, Bentsir Number 1, and Anaafo Number 2.
Nkum Asafo No. 4 took home the top prize, receiving a cash award, medals, and a trophy. Anaafo Number 2 secured second place, while Bentsir Number 1 took third.
Francis Adu, a proud member of Nkum Asafo No. 4, attributed their victory to their well-built, hardworking, and highly motivated team. He also dismissed rumors of rigged results, saying, “Our consistent wins over the past two years have naturally led to envy, but our legacy speaks for itself.”
The regatta drew a massive crowd, including traditional rulers, residents, and visitors. The 2024 Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations, themed “Celebrating the City of The First,” aim to engage people of all ages while promoting unity among Cape Coast citizens.
The festivities, which began on September 1st, will continue until Saturday with various programs marking the festival’s climax.
