Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Fisherfolk to Benefit from Solar-Powered Outboard Motors – Dr. Bawumia

Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced the introduction of solar-powered outboard motors to tackle the long-standing premix fuel challenges faced by fisherfolk in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese constituency.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Moree, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for a permanent solution to the premix fuel problem, which has been plagued by fraud and inefficiencies.
“We need a permanent solution to this problem because every time we move, we don’t solve the problem permanently,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
The solar-powered outboard motors will provide a sustainable and efficient alternative to premix fuel, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing the livelihoods of fishermen. Dr. Bawumia’s office will engage fisherfolk in the coming weeks, ahead of the pilot program’s launch in October.
“This innovative approach will transform the fishing industry, providing a lasting solution to the premix fuel challenges. We will have meetings with the fishermen on this in the next few weeks, and the pilot programme will take place next month,” Dr. Bawumia explained.
The initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. Dr. Bawumia’s vision for a modernized fishing industry is poised to benefit thousands of fishermen across the country.
Local fishermen welcomed the announcement, citing the struggles they’ve faced with premix fuel. “This is a game-changer for us,” said Agya Dan, a fisherman. “We’ve been struggling with premix fuel for years, and this solar-powered solution will make our lives easier.”
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the fishing industry, with Dr. Bawumia’s initiative being a key component.
