A devastating incident has occurred at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where a final year student, Patrick Mensah, has tragically lost his life. Just a day after completing his final exams, Patrick met his untimely demise while visiting a galamsey site in Manso.
According to his uncle, Patrick had returned home on Monday evening, elated after writing his last paper.
However, his joy was short-lived. The following day, he decided to visit a friend at the galamsey site, where he attempted to rescue a man who had fallen into a pit. Unfortunately, Patrick also fell into the pit and lost his life.
The KNUST community, as well as Patrick’s family and friends, are in shock and mourning the loss of a young life that had just achieved a significant milestone.
Patrick was studying Agricultural Biotechnology and had a bright future ahead of him. His sudden death is a tragic reminder of the dangers of galamsey activities.
