Two Unemployed Men Jailed 20 Years for Robbery at Nyankumasi Ahenkro

The Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Sophia Priscilla Yeboah, has sentenced two armed robbers, Prince Aidoo (24) and Festus Arthur (21), to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labor for their involvement in a robbery incident at Nyankumasi Ahenkro in the Assin South District.

The convicts, both unemployed and natives of Abura Kwaduagya in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery. Each convict received a 10-year sentence.

A team of police officers, led by Detective Corporal Nii Armah Ashitey of the Nyankumasi Ahenkro Police Command, arrested the convicts.

According to Prosecutor Inspector Iddrisu Salifu, the complainant, a 17-year-old final-year student at Nyankumasi Ahenkro Senior High School, was attacked by the convicts on August 19, 2024, while returning home from school.

The prosecutor explained that the convicts, including one still at large, were standing on the path bridge behind the Church of Pentecost, Nyankumasi Ahenkro branch. When the complainant greeted them, they refused to respond and ordered him to stay put. The complainant attempted to flee but was kicked by Prince Aidoo, causing him to fall into the bush. Festus Arthur then threatened him with a knife and demanded his smartphone.

The convicts took the phone and escaped. A complaint was filed, leading to their arrest at their hideouts. They admitted to the offense in their cautioned statements and were subsequently charged and tried.

In an interview with Rich FM and Angel News Correspondent Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack after the sentencing, the convicts appealed for forgiveness, expressing remorse for their actions.
