Ekon Chief Threatens Demo Over Sea Defense Neglect

Ekon, Cape Coast- The Chief of Ekon, Nana Kwame Edu Ababio, has issued a stern warning to the government, threatening to lead his people in demonstrations if their demands for sea defense and breakwater are not met within two months.

At a press conference, Nana Ababio expressed his frustration and disappointment over the government’s inaction despite repeated pleas for help.

The tidal waves have had a devastating impact on the community, destroying over 150 houses, crippling the fishing industry, and causing significant income loss and struggling families.

The local economy is suffering, with businesses folding due to the lack of protection. Nana Ababio highlighted that neighboring towns like Moree, Egyaa No.1 & No. 2 and parts of Cape Coast have received sea defense and breakwater, leaving Ekon vulnerable to sea erosion.

“We can’t wait anymore,” Nana Ababio stressed. “If the government fails to act, we’ll take to the streets to demand protection for our community.”

The Chief emphasized that the community’s existence is threatened by sea erosion, and years of unfulfilled promises from past and present governments have led to this ultimatum.

Residents shared heart-wrenching stories of how the tidal wave crisis has affected their lives, with many unable to provide for their families, marriages collapsing due to economic hardship, and people fleeing the town in search of better opportunities.

Frustrated residents warned that they have suffered enough and will express their discontent through the ballot box if the government refuses to act.

With the two-month ultimatum looming, the government faces mounting pressure to address the humanitarian crisis and potential electoral consequences.

Time is running out, and the government must act swiftly to respond to Ekon’s desperate cry for help.
