Manifestos Losing Relevance in Ghanaian Politics – Dr. Amoako Baah

Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that manifestos have become increasingly irrelevant in Ghanaian politics.
Despite being a traditional part of election campaigns, manifestos have lost their significance due to political parties’ tendency to disregard their promises once in power.
Speaking on Onua TV’s live broadcast of the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi, Dr. Baah Amoako, a Political Science lecturer at KNUST, emphasized that manifestos are becoming obsolete.
He suggested abolishing manifestos before elections, allowing the winning party to assess the economy’s state before making promises.
“Manifestos have become a mere tradition, plagued by deficiencies. Parties make promises without understanding the realities. Let’s suspend manifestos and allow the winning party to assess the situation before making commitments,” Dr. Baah Amoako stated.
This comes as the NPP prepares to launch its manifesto for the 2024 elections, with thousands of supporters expected to gather at GSTS. The event follows the party’s health walk in Sekondi-Takoradi.
An 11-member committee, chaired by Madam Oboshie Sai-Coffie, has been established to plan and execute the launch.
Dr. Baah Amoako’s comments spark debate on the effectiveness of manifestos in Ghanaian politics.
