Speaking at the 2024 Emancipation Celebration Durbar at the Assin Praso Heritage Village, Odeefuo Tibu Darko Ampem II noted that “We are in an election year, and it is imperative that we conduct ourselves in a manner that promotes peace and unity.”
He emphasized the need for politicians to conduct their campaigns with decorum and respect for their opponents. “Let us not forget that we are all Ghanaians, and our goal is to build a better future for our country,” he said.
The traditional leader expressed concern that personal attacks and hate speech could incite violence and create divisions among Ghanaians. “We must not allow our political differences to divide us,” he urged. “Rather, let us focus on issues that will promote development and prosperity for all.”
Odeefuo Tibu Darko Ampem II encouraged politicians to engage in policy-based campaigns, saying “Let us talk about our plans for Ghana’s future, our vision for development, and our strategies for addressing the challenges we face. Let us debate ideas, not personalities.”
He also called on all Ghanaians to pray for the country, saying “Let us come together and pray for Ghana, that God may guide us and protect us from harm. Let us pray for peaceful elections and a prosperous future for our nation.”
The Emancipation Celebration Durbar brought together people from all walks of life to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Africans and their descendants. Odeefuo Tibu Darko Ampem II’s message of peace, unity, and constructive political discourse resonated with the audience, and served as a timely reminder of the importance of promoting a positive and respectful political culture.
