“Trader Accuses Immigration Officers of Stealing Gh¢200”

Assin Dompim, Central Region – A dramatic incident has sparked outrage in Assin Dompim, as three Ghana Immigration Service officers have been accused of stealing Gh¢200 from a trader’s shop.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers had been dispatched to deliver sachet water to the shop owned by Akos Tiwaa, also known as Sister, who had previously reported missing money. In an effort to catch the perpetrators, she set a trap with the Gh¢200, which disappeared after the officers finished offloading the water.

A search conducted on the suspected officers revealed the money hidden under the doormat of their vehicle, sparking outrage among the community.

The crowd demanded that the officers refund all stolen money, totaling over Gh¢20,000, leading to tension between the youth and immigration officers.

Police intervention from the Central North Regional Police Command prevented escalation, and the officers were taken to the police station for their safety.

Community leaders, including Mr. Akwasi Nyarkoh and Mr. Prince Maxwell Agyapong (Wofa KK), have urged the GIS to take immediate action to prevent further harassment and brutality by immigration personnel. They emphasized the need for thorough background checks on recruits to maintain the institution’s reputation.

The Immigration Service has promised to release a statement later, as the community demands accountability and justice.

This incident has raised concerns about the conduct of immigration officers in the area, and the community is calling for swift action to address the issue.
