MALARIA EMERGENCY; Eastern Region DCEs Beg Gov’t to Intervene as Deadly Mosquitoes Spread Terror

A dire situation is unfolding in the Eastern Region of Ghana, where a malaria outbreak has taken hold, threatening the lives of thousands. The District Chief Executives (DCEs) of the Akyemansa bloc, comprising Achiase, Birim South, Birim Central, and Akyemansa districts, are frantically calling on the government to intervene with urgent assistance.

A new, highly dangerous breed of mosquitoes has invaded the region, transmitting malaria to cocoa farmers and residents alike. The situation is dire, with over 300 people hospitalized in Achiase district alone. Hon. Richmond Kofi Amponsah Agyabeng, DCE for Achiase and dean of MMDCEs in Ghana, has personally fallen victim to the mosquito bites and understands the gravity of the situation.

“The situation is catastrophic,” Hon. Amponsah Agyabeng emphasized. “We need the government to declare a health emergency and provide the necessary resources to combat this outbreak. We cannot afford to lose more lives to this preventable disease.”

The DCEs are urgently appealing to the Ghana Health Service and the government to provide resources, expertise, and support to combat the outbreak. They warn that the situation will escalate further if not addressed promptly, putting more lives at risk.

Health experts fear that the new mosquito breed may be resistant to conventional insecticides, making it even more challenging to control their spread. The situation requires a comprehensive approach, including public education, vector control measures, and adequate healthcare services.

As the crisis deepens, the people of Akyemansa bloc anxiously await the government’s response. Will the authorities heed the DCEs’ desperate call and take decisive action to save lives and prevent further suffering? The clock is ticking.

The outbreak has already caused significant disruption to daily life in the region, with many farmers unable to work due to illness. The local economy is also feeling the impact, as trade and commerce slow down.

The DCEs’ appeal has garnered support from local residents, who are calling on the government to take immediate action. “We need the government to act now to save our lives and our livelihoods,” said one resident. “We cannot afford to wait any longer.”

As the situation continues to unfold, the people of Akyemansa bloc remain in a state of panic, hoping that the government will respond swiftly to their plight. One thing is certain: the clock is ticking, and every minute counts in the race to contain this deadly malaria outbreak.
