“Protest Erupts in Assin Central Over NDC’s Suspension of Parliamentary Candidate”

Residents of Assin Central have taken to the streets to protest the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) decision to withdraw Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general elections. The Central Regional Secretariat of the NDC announced the withdrawal due to alleged immoral conduct and anti-party behavior.
The protesters, mostly NDC members, claim the decision is unfair and an attempt to deny Migyimah the opportunity to contest the elections. They argue that they have conducted their own investigations and found the allegations against Migyimah to be untrue.
The NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee withdrew Migyimah’s candidature pending review and adjudication by the Regional Disciplinary Committee. The committee’s decision has sparked controversy in the constituency, with many questioning the fairness of the process.
Migyimah has denied the allegations, stating that he will work through the party’s structures to resolve the matter. He expressed confidence that he will be vindicated and emerge victorious in the December elections.
The protest has called on the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, to intervene in the matter, citing the potential for confusion among party members. The Central Regional Communications Director of the NDC, Gabriella Tetteh, confirmed that the suspension was due to intimate videos of Migyimah and the constituency secretary’s wife, which had created bad publicity for the party.
The situation has sparked a heated debate in the constituency, with many questioning the NDC’s decision and others supporting the party’s stance. The outcome of this situation will undoubtedly have significant implications for the NDC’s chances in the upcoming elections.
