Obiri Kwaku Basic School Gets First-Ever Ultramodern Classroom Block

Assin North District Chief Executive commissions 6-unit classroom block to improve education in the community

On Friday, June 21, 2024, the residents of Obiri Kwaku in the Assin North District witnessed the unveiling of an ultramodern school block for the first time since the school was established in 1983. The 6-unit classroom block was commissioned by Hon. Charles Ohene Andoh, Assin North District Chief Executive, alongside Nana Ofori Ayisi, chief of Obiri Kwaku, Nana Okofo Twum Barimah, Chief of Assin Dansame, and officials from the Assin North District Education Directorate.

The ultramodern edifice consists of 6-unit classrooms, a computer lab, store room, and headteacher’s office. Each classroom is furnished with dual desks, whiteboard, ceiling fans, and 24-hour electricity.

Prior to the commissioning of this project, pupils received instructions under a dilapidated structure. The school building, made of mud with weak walls, had parts of its roof ripped off by a rainstorm, leading to its closure for several weeks to ensure the safety of pupils and teachers.

The school project, which commenced in August 2021, became a reality due to the combined efforts of the District Assembly and residents, championed by Mr. Matthew Asare, Mr. Inusah Issah, Mr. Ocloo (former headteacher), Mr. Bright Amoah, the current headteacher, and others.

Nana Okofo Twum Barimah, chief of Assin Dansame, pledged to support the community with five packets of roofing sheets and a substantial amount of money. Several others also donated towards the project.

Obiri Kwaku is a farming community with a cluster of villages in the Assin North District, sharing boundaries with the Ashanti Region to the north and the Eastern Region to the east. Despite having social amenities like water supply, electricity, teachers’ quarters, and the newly commissioned 6-unit classroom block, the community still lacks a health center and recreational facilities.

The community has produced many professionals and artisans who work in various cities and towns, including Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Koforidua, Oda, Obuasi, and Assin Fosu. Notable among them is the talented footballer, Abdul Aziz Issah (Dreams FC).

The commissioning of the ultramodern classroom block marks a significant milestone in the history of Obiri Kwaku Basic School and the community at large. It is expected to improve the quality of education and provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils.

The Assin North District Assembly has demonstrated its commitment to education and community development, and the community is grateful for the support. The inauguration of the classroom block is a testament to the power of collaboration and community development.

The next step for the community is to establish a Junior High School to enhance students’ interest in education and prevent them from dropping out due to the lack of a Junior High School in the community. With the support of the District Assembly, traditional leaders, and residents, Obiri Kwaku is poised for further development and growth.

The community is also exploring ways to improve the deplorable roads and lack of health and recreational centers. The district assembly has promised to tar the roads and build a health center and recreational facilities in the near future.

The people of Obiri Kwaku are excited about the progress and development in their community. They are grateful to the district assembly, traditional leaders, and individuals who have supported the community’s growth.

The ultramodern classroom block is a symbol of hope and a better future for the children of Obiri Kwaku. It is a reminder that with collective effort and support, even the most challenging obstacles can be overcome.

In conclusion, the commissioning of the ultramodern classroom block in Obiri Kwaku marks a significant milestone in the community’s history. It is a testament to the power of collaboration and community development, and a reminder that with collective effort, even the most challenging obstacles can be overcome.
