“Bloody Fight: Nigerian Stabs Compatriot in Liberian Camp”

“A 27-year-old Nigerian national, Dery Winner, has been remanded in police custody by the Ofankor District Court for allegedly stabbing his compatriot, Nann (also known as Andrews), following a heated argument at Liberian Camp, a suburb of Buduburam in the Central Region. The incident occurred at the residence of a fellow Nigerian, where the two men lived in the same compound.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect and the victim had a history of disagreements, and the situation escalated into a physical altercation on the day of the incident. The suspect retrieved a broken bottle from his room and used it to stab the victim multiple times in the neck after a verbal altercation. The victim, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to St. Gregory Hospital at Buduburam, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
The landlord of the apartment, Nana Amoasi, reported that the suspect fled the scene after the attack but was later apprehended by the police and arraigned before the Ofankor District Court. The court remanded the suspect and scheduled his next appearance for July 1, 2024.
The landlord expressed concern over the rising crime rate in Buduburam and appealed to the Interior Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, and other security agencies to enhance security measures in the area to combat criminal activity.
In an interview, the victim stated that he was unaware of any motive behind the attack but was grateful to the police for arresting the suspect. He revealed that the suspect had previously threatened him on several occasions, but he had ignored the warnings, which ultimately led to his injury.
The victim also expressed concern about the safety of his life and the lives of others in the community, given the suspect’s history of aggression. He called on the authorities to take swift action to ensure the suspect faces justice and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The police have assured the public that they are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all individuals involved. The authorities have also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of foreigners living in Ghana, particularly in the Buduburam area. The Ghana Immigration Service has issued a statement assuring the public that they are working closely with the police to ensure the safety of all foreigners living in the country.
The Nigerian High Commission in Ghana has also issued a statement condemning the incident and calling for calm. They have assured the public that they are working closely with the Ghanaian authorities to ensure that justice is served.
The incident is a reminder of the need for increased security measures in communities across Ghana, particularly in areas with high populations of foreigners. The authorities must take swift action to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.”
