Mahama Vows to Make Hajj More Affordable for Muslims

In a move that is set to resonate with the Muslim community in Ghana, former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to reduce the cost of Hajj if he wins the 2024 presidential election. The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made this commitment during Eid prayers with the Ahlussuna Wal-Jamah Muslim group at the State House in Accra on Sunday.
Mahama acknowledged that the current Hajj fare of GH¢75,000 is prohibitively expensive, preventing many ordinary Muslims from fulfilling their pilgrimage to Mecca. “It’s very difficult for the ordinary Muslim to perform the Hajj,” he said. “But Insha Allah, if we win this election and come into government, we will work to reduce the Hajj fare so that everybody can go.”
Mahama’s promise is a significant gesture of support for the Muslim community in Ghana, who have long struggled with the high costs associated with the Hajj pilgrimage. The former President’s commitment to making Hajj more accessible and affordable is a testament to his dedication to the welfare of all Ghanaians, regardless of their religious beliefs.
With this promise, Mahama is likely to garner significant support from Muslim voters in the upcoming election. His commitment to reducing Hajj costs is seen as a bold move that will ease the financial burden on many Muslim families.
During his address, Mahama also emphasized the importance of appreciating fathers for their efforts, especially in the face of current economic challenges. He praised the sacrifices made by fathers and urged the community to support and honor them.
Mahama’s promise to reduce Hajj costs is a welcome development for many Muslims in Ghana, who have been calling for more affordable options for the pilgrimage. His commitment to the Muslim community is a testament to his inclusive leadership style and his dedication to the welfare of all Ghanaians.
