Akufo-Addo Endorses Auditor-General’s Leadership with Two-Year Extension

In a move aimed at ensuring continuity and stability in the audit sector, President Akufo-Addo has granted a two-year extension to the appointment of Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu. This decision was communicated to all staff through a notice from the Audit Service on July 19.

Initially, Mr. Asiedu was set to retire on August 1, 2024, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. However, the extension will allow him to continue serving as Auditor-General until August 1, 2026, ensuring that his vast experience and expertise are retained to oversee the audit of public accounts and ensure accountability in the use of public resources.

The Audit Service congratulated Mr. Asiedu on his extended tenure, expressing their appreciation for his dedication and commitment to the role. During his tenure, Mr. Asiedu has been instrumental in transforming the Audit Service, introducing new technologies and systems to enhance the audit process, and ensuring that the Service operates with independence and integrity.

The extension of Mr. Asiedu’s appointment is seen as a vote of confidence in his leadership and a recognition of his contributions to the development of the audit sector in Ghana. It is also expected to provide stability and continuity in the Service, allowing Mr. Asiedu to complete ongoing initiatives and ensure a smooth transition when his tenure eventually comes to an end.

The notice read: “We are pleased to inform all staff that President Akufo-Addo has extended the tenure of Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu for a further two years. We congratulate Mr. Asiedu on this well-deserved extension and thank him for his continued service and dedication to the Audit Service.”
