NPP’s intimidations won’t stop the wind of change blowing in Central Region – Prof Richard Asiedu

The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Asiedu, has asserted that the calculated intimidations by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not impede the momentum of change sweeping through the Central Region.

Professor Asiedu made these remarks on Sunday, June 9, 2024, while addressing critical issues related to the ongoing proxy and voter transfer application process conducted by various entities, including the Electoral Commission (EC), security agencies, and the media, in Kasoa.

The Central Regional Chairman of the NDC emphasized that the NDC in the Central Region, under his leadership, is closely monitoring developments and is prepared to take all legitimate actions to ensure justice for their members and the citizens of Ghana.
”The NDC in the Central Region, which I preside over, advocates for peace. However, if the Ghana Police Service continues to turn a blind eye to malevolent activities, we will be compelled to take preemptive measures before the December 7th election,” Prof Asiedu noted.

He highlighted some of the significant challenges and critical issues occurring in the Region and their implications.
According to Prof Asiedu, the proxy application and voter transfer period, which ran from May 30th to June 14th, 2024, experienced power outages, equipment malfunctions, and network difficulties on the part of the EC, which he attributed to deliberate manipulation by the NPP.

He identified certain constituencies in the Region where the Ghana Police Service appeared indifferent to what he described as malicious acts occurring on numerous occasions.

In the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) Constituency, he disclosed that voters were enticed and transported with financial incentives disguised as business loans to Accra for registration.

In Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, he alleged that the NPP was scrutinizing the EC register for deceased individuals to register as proxy voters.

Furthermore, in the Effutu Constituency, Professor Asiedu accused the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP), Honorable Alexandra Afenyo-Markin, of deploying 71 men in military attire to transfer their votes to Effutu.

Regarding Awutu Senya West, he reported an incident where an NDC representative known as Junior was assaulted by an NPP activist named Alex Acheampong in the presence of the District Police Commander.

Similar acts of intimidation were observed in Ewutu Senya East, where both the NDC and NPP, in the presence of the police, had agreed upon procedures for transporting individuals to the EC center on June 1, 2024.

However, on the morning of June 2nd, the NPP violated the agreement by transporting over 50 individuals to the center.

Not to forget the shooting incident involving Hawa Komsoon in 2020 during a similar exercise.

He urged all party members not to be afraid but work hard for the party’s victory.
